We had a short segment in this month's meeting on securities offerings and the perils of a "joint venture". A recent, highly publicized case in Regina shines a spotlight on the perils. In this case, there are numerous allegations of wrongdoing. Among them, the misuse of a joint venture agreement when in fact there is a violation of securities regulations. The Joint Venture is a technique that is taught by many real estate "educators" out there. This should be a cautionary tale that this approach may not be in compliance.
