Hello fellow Members,
Tomorrow is finally Election Day where we get to cast our votes and shape the next year for OREIO!
But, today, I would like to tell you a story:
In the early 2010s, the Washington Post was unprofitable. Newspaper readership was down and they did not have the infrastructure or personnel to shift their business activities to the internet.
The Graham Family (who owned the Post) recognized their company’s assets: engaging content delivered by great people; however, making that leap to the internet would need outside help to successfully modernize. Fast forward and, in 2013, they agreed to sell the company to Amazon.
Today, the Washington Post is profitable and again a leader in the industry, all while maintaining its core fundamental values.
Moral of the story is this: when you embark on a new venture, you surround yourself with the best available talent.
I am a career project manager and Professional Engineer with over 10 years of industry experience. I have attached my bio if you are interested in more information, but, long story short, I deliver projects. Period.
As Secretary, I will act as the backbone to help deliver this modernization by bringing the following to the board.
1. I will apply my project management experience in moderating the board meetings to ensure that OREIO's transition aligns with our beliefs and that the board is held accountable to its members.
2. I am bilingual and will ensure that transparency and communication are of the highest priority to our members. So, for the francophones, “je serais votre interlocuteur au sein du conseil d’administration pour répondre à votre besoins dans la langue de votre choix”.
3. Finally, I will propose a system to better integrate new members into our community, both to improve new member experience but also to enhance networking for established members.
OREIO, to me, is more than just a networking and educational group, but also a community where likeminded individuals can help each other achieve their financial goals.
For that reason, I hope to have earned your support in these upcoming elections. I look forward to giving back to our members and contributing to OREIO’s new chapter.
My name is Jacob Holmer and I thank you for your support. Feel free to contact me if you would like to further discuss what I'll be bringing to OREIO.
Take care!
